Performance Evaluation of the IEEE 802.16 ARQ Mechanism

چکیده
The IEEE 802.16 standard defines the ARQ mechanism as a part of the MAC layer. The functioning of the ARQ mechanism depends on a number of parameters. The IEEE 802.16 specification defines them but it does not provide concrete values and solutions. This paper studies the key features and parameters of the 802.16 ARQ mechanism. In particular, we consider a choice for the ARQ feedback type, an algorithm to build block sequences, the ARQ feedback intensity, a scheduling of the ARQ feedbacks and retransmissions, the ARQ block rearrangement, ARQ transmission window and the ARQ block size. We ran simulation scenarios to study these parameters and how they impact the performance of application protocols. The simulation results reveal that the ARQ mechanism and its correct configuration play an important role in achieving reliable data transmission.

Performance analysis of the cumulative ARQ in IEEE 802.16 networks
In this paper, we study the performance of the cumulative Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) in IEEE 802.16 networks. An analytical model is developed to investigate some important performance metrics, such as protocol data unit (PDU) delivery delay, service data unit (SDU) delivery delay, and goodput. A general scheduling scheme and the flexible retransmission of lost PDUs are jointly considered i...

The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...

متن کاملLink adaptation thresholds for the IEEE 802.16 base station
The IEEE 802.16 technology defines a number of modulation and coding schemes that the base station can use to achieve the best tradeoff between the spectrum efficiency and the resulting application level throughput. However, the 802.16 specification does not define any particular link level adaptation algorithm, neither does it specify the SNR thresholds for switching between the modulation and...
متن کاملA New Cut–Through Mechanism in IEEE 802.16 Mesh Networks
IEEE 802.16 is a new wireless technology standard, it has some advantages, including wider coverage, higher bandwidth, and QoS support. As the new wireless technology for last mile solution, there are designed two models in IEEE 802.16 standard. One is PMP (point to multipoint) and the other is Mesh. In this paper we only focus on IEEE 802.16 Mesh model. According to the IEEE 802.16 standard de...
